Bower Community Concert Series ALWAYS A SELL-OUT CROWD! Doors open at 5:30 You could search the whole wide world and be hard-pressed to find a rock band in their early 20’s with more experience than Barefoot Modern. Tegan Dean, Robert Beverly, and Hunter Evans have been writing, recording, and performing together since they were 15. Together they’ve already released two full-length albums, four EPs, and multiple singles. Barefoot Modern’s latest album, Glasshead, marks the band’s maturation from their angsty garage roots to a well-honed alt rock band, peaking in their formidable musical skills. The well-produced songs on Glasshead range from funky (“Around the Bend”) to banging (“Whatchu Want”) to ethereal (the title track), while still uniting atmospherically. The band has retained their sharp lyrical edge and classic rock-inspired hooks while producing a thoroughly modern sound. With haunting lyrics, soaring harmonies, and weeping guitar finish, the sixth track on the album, “Why’s It So Hard To Believe You,” perfectly exemplifies their newer “dark pop” ethos. When Tegan sings the last words of the last song on the album, the melancholy-yet-somehow-uplifting “Sunday Afternoon,” you’re ready to stream the whole thing over again. What is it about this band? In their song “Younger Years,” Tegan purrs a clue: “Silky threads run through my ears, sounds that only I could hear, from my younger years.” Like the great bands they so admire, Barefoot Modern captures and combines a variety of influences, all grounded in pop-rock classicism. But this is no backward-looking tribute band; rather, Barefoot Modern’s original songs like "Down," "Watchu Want," and "2000 and 10" showcase a sound undeniably their own. Bits and pieces from the past are collected, processed, and emerge as a wonderfully unified and utterly magical gestalt. Modern, fresh, and enchanting, the gentle tailwinds of Barefoot Modern carry you into a dreamy musical landscape. Maybe, as the band says, we’ve found ourselves a wonderland Learn more about the band on their social media outlets: |
