The Hamner Theater, a center for the performing arts in Nelson County, and a non-profit project of the Rockfish Valley Community Center, has been home to a varied range of drama, comedy, dance and music since 2005. The Hamner aims to involve the community in every aspect of performance, and offers training programs in all aspects of theater production, including acting, playwriting, lighting, sound & set design, stage managing & directing. Our program, the Virginia Playwrights and Screenwriters Initiative (VPSI), is dedicated to the production of new work, part of our continuing mission to foster new works for the stage. We also offer an ongoing program of Improv with the Hamner Improv Troupe, HIT. Improv classes and VPSI staged readings are always free.
